Referring a patient?
Let's make it simple.
I work closely with GPs, psychiatrists, and other clinicians across Spain and the UK, providing structured, evidence-based psychological support efficiently and without unnecessary layers.
Who is suitable for referral?
I accept referrals for adults and adolescents presenting with anxiety and stress-related conditions, depressive symptoms and loss of motivation, trauma and adverse life events, and chronic or complex presentations where functional improvement and psychological adjustment are the primary treatment goals.
The service is particularly well-suited to high-functioning individuals seeking structured, time-limited therapy, and to patients who may benefit from a focused brief intervention before progressing to longer-term or higher-intensity treatment.
Anxiety and stress-related difficulties
Generalised anxiety, panic, health anxiety, and burnout.
Depressive symptoms and low mood
Loss of motivation, anhedonia, and mild-to-moderate depression.
Trauma and adverse life events
Single-incident and complex trauma, including EMDR-informed work.
Chronic and complex presentations
Long-standing mood, anxiety, OCD, eating difficulties, or psychosomatic difficulties requiring structured psychological management alongside medical care.
Patients awaiting higher-intensity treatment
Focused early intervention while waiting for specialist services.
Clinical orientation
I'm a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK and the Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos (COP Madrid) in Spain. My approach is pluralistic and formulation-driven, integrating CBT, EMDR-informed trauma work, person-centred approaches, and brief strategic and solution-focused interventions.
Each referral begins with a structured assessment producing a clear formulation and intervention plan, supporting both short-term symptom reduction and longer-term psychological management where clinically indicated.
Why a brief-intervention model?
This approach works well when waiting lists are long and early intervention is clinically indicated, when a patient prefers structured and time-efficient therapy, or when a stepped-care pathway is needed prior to higher-intensity specialist treatment.
The model follows a stepped-care logic comparable to NHS IAPT, delivering lower-intensity, targeted interventions first and escalating when clinically indicated. It is fully adaptable across private and mixed healthcare systems, including those aligned with Spain's Sistema Nacional de Salud.
For chronic conditions, I provide psychologically informed management alongside medical care, with a clear formulation and treatment direction, quickly.
How to refer
Choose the option that works for your practice. Both are secure and GDPR-compliant.
Option 1 — Secure online form
Complete the referral form in your browser. Encrypted end-to-end via Carepatron (GDPR-audited, 256-bit). No patient data via unencrypted email.
UK GDPR Article 9 compliant. Accessed only by Dr. Santiago De Ossorno (HCPC PYL040507).
Option 2 — Encrypted email
For practices with NHS Mail (@nhs.net) or Egress Switch. Send your referral securely to:
referrals@doortotherapy.comPlease include in referrals: reason for referral, urgency, current risk status, relevant clinical and medical history, current medication, your direct contact details, and a signed GP or specialist letter where available.
Plain-text email to a standard inbox is not suitable. A secure or encrypted account is required on the sending side.
A note on insurance referrals
Patients may self-refer. However, some private medical insurance providers require a GP or specialist referral letter before authorising treatment. Where this applies, I'll work with the referring clinician to ensure continuity of care, appropriate documentation, and alignment with insurer requirements.
For Mental Health Professionals
Interested in having a similar clinic, open, brief and technologically ready?
An accessible and independent practitioner-led model, built to share with other clinicians and therapists to help them build their own practice and help more people.
Door to Therapy is designed not only as a clinical service, but as a replicable, clinician-led framework, it is a solution to the problem of the lack of access to mental health services and the need to help more people, an alternative to heavily centralised or intermediary-dependent systems that limit professional autonomy and direct patient care.
The model is intentionally open. Its clinical structure, stepped-care pathways, service delivery logic, and operational considerations are available to share with clinicians who want to build or adapt their own evidence-based practice along similar lines. This includes openness around clinical structure and treatment pathways, service delivery and patient flow, and the practical and financial considerations of running an accessible clinic. I also help and train other professionals in brief intervention and stepped care models to help them build their own practice and help more people.
Brief, outcome-oriented interventions and stepped care models
Focused care that respects patients' time and produces measurable results.
Transparent clinical decision-making and governance
Stepped-care progression with clear rationale at every stage aligned with professional standards.
Evidence integrated with clinical flexibility
Research-backed methods adapted to real-world clinical contexts.
Direct clinician–patient relationships
No unnecessary organisational layers between you and the people you serve.
Who this is for
This may be relevant to you if you are a psychologist, counsellor, or therapist interested in implementing a brief-intervention model in private or hybrid practice, adapting a stepped-care framework for managing chronic and complex cases, building a sustainable practice with a clear operational and costing philosophy, or simply exchanging ideas with clinicians working in a similar way.
Register your interest
Clinicians interested in the Door to Therapy approach are welcome to get in touch. You'll receive an overview of the clinical model and its rationale, information on service structure and patient flow, and a transparent outline of operational and costing considerations.
The goal is a network of independent clinicians delivering structured, evidence-based psychological care, with professional autonomy and high ethical standards at its centre.
Door to Therapy is committed to evidence-based, human-centred psychological care that is accessible, efficient, and adaptable across healthcare contexts in the UK and Spain.
